Keep the cold out
- Insulate home with insulation ,caulking , caulking gun & weather stripping. (Ensure there is no drought coming from under doors or windows seals.)
- Prevent pipes from freezing with a outdoor faucet freeze protector
- Use heavy curtains or thermal curtains to minimize heat transfer through windows.
- Place rugs on cold floors to provide an extra layer of insulation and warmth.
- Insulate ceiling
- Air seal everything ( bathroom & dryer vents , fans etc )
- Stop up chimney
- Know where you will go if your home becomes too cold. Your car, a friend's or a warming center.
- Consider a energy audit ( find out where cold air is getting in )
- Keep emergency supplies in your vehicle, such as a blanket, warm clothing, a first aid kit, and boots.
Preparation
- Ensure that all of your smoke alarms are working properly with new batteries. (The Red Cross or your local fire department may have resources for free smoke alarms.)
- Keep a full tank of gas at all times
- Find a small room or closet in the house to completely SEAL & keep warm
- Keep a backpack filled with necessary items ( incase you have to leave )
- Gather all important documents , medications, medical supplies, pet supplies

Gather supplies
- Stock up food , water , batteries , medications.
- Have emergency candles , water proof flashlights & emergency light sticks
- Invest in a pair of thermal coveralls ( incase the power goes out )
- Have beanies, mittens , scarves & jackets , ski mask
- Invest in a good generator incase the power goes out
- Invest in a solar panel , power station and extra power banks. Keep these items charged at all times
- invest in water containers to store water
- Stock up on pet food & pet supplies
